NEW YORK DECOUPAGE PICTURE FRAME

A city so great they framed it twice...

A city so great they framed it twice…

I made this picture frame as a wedding present for two of my favourite people.

A couple of years ago they came out to visit me in America-land we all went on a pretty awesome trip to NYC so I thought it would be nice for the happy couple to have a memento of that.

I made the frame using the same method that use when I make my decoupage chairs, using Mod-podge to stick on the paper and then applying a couple of coats of wipe-on poly varnish to seal the whole lot and make it a bit more durable.

I really like the look of this…I might have to make something similar for myself to remind me of some my own adventures!

VINTAGE NEW YORK DECOUPAGE CHAIR

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This is my second decoupage project. I’m still quite in love with the idea of gluing maps to everything I own, I’ve started to stare absent-mindedly around the room, looking for my next victim.
I got this chair from an amazing salvage yard in Baltimore called Second Chance. I love it there but I’m not allowed to go too often because I always come away with something that will undoubtedly be too big for my tiny terrace house back home. I’m currently obsessed with some 12ft high illuminated letters.

The chair was labelled as mid-century and had been originally priced at $150 but the seat had come astray at some point and it had been marked down to $10! Much more my price bracket.

Anyway, some considerable sanding, gluing and varnishing later and I have another unique chair, hurrah!

VINTAGE MAP CHAIR

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The perfect place to sit and plan my next trip….

I haven’t added a ‘making’ post in while. That’s partly because the cold weather has just made me want to stay inside and bake and partly because this chair took a little longer than my usual crafty bits and pieces.

I saw something similar posted on pinterest and fell in love with it. After dragging Mr Colonial Cravings around virtually every charity shop in the area I eventually found this old school chair at a reclamation yard in Baltimore.

After a fair bit of sanding I resprayed the frame and simply used PVA glue to stick on my map (wrapping paper) before applying a couple of top coats of PVA. I finished it off with a wipe on Polyurethane varnish – I love it so I want it to be as durable as possible.

I have some of the paper left over so I fear a may become a little obsessed with covering things with it, I love maps. To me they aren’t a document – they’re an invitation!
